"Onion Skin," an eclectic journey ignited by writer's block, is a non-profit, creative short film that conveyed an innovative 1990's message of a generation's angst and lust for true love and sexual equality. When a producer suffers from writer's block after getting his first grant, he embarks upon a fantasy journey into a world of modern relationships; his angst and quest for fulfillment materialize into a lust for true love and sexual equality for himself and his peers, as they meander and mix amongst the strange streets of Chicago, Illinois and its surrounding suburbs.
“Onion Skin” was unique in its time for its collaborative, non-profit approach to film fundraising and creative expression. In 1993, “Onion Skin” debuted at the Hometown Video Festival, now the Alliance for Community Media, and received an “Innovative Film” award, Single Program or Series Categories. A group of dedicated volunteers including artists, businesses, community, cast and crew members collaborated and contributed their resources, art, and business development to create “Onion Skin.” The film was shown across Illinois and featured on “Image Union,” Chicago Public Broadcasting System.
